All organic products should first of all correspond to several major criteria:
- to be cultivated in organic soil (with the use of natural fertilizers: dung, compost, green manure);
- to be cultivated without chemicals;
- to be never genetically modified.
In different countries requirements to raw materials are different, yet they are equally strict everywhere. In agriculture to the soil where raw material is cultivated alongside with others the following requirement is made: fresh dung should be applied onto the soil no less than 120 days before harvesting of the culture, edible part of which is in direct contact with the surface or particles of the soil. All chemical fertilizers are prohibited. Plants should get sufficient quantities of nutrients by means of rational farming. Thus, for instance, cauliflower draws out nitrogen but pea and corn vice versa enrich soil with it. The fruitage must not be exposed to chemical processing to prolong its storage life.
There are strict rules in stock-raising as well. Buildings for cattle keeping should be sufficiently spacious; in summer cows (sheep, goat etc.) should walk in meadows and pastures and have the paddock in winter as well. They need natural light, shade, wind protection, fresh water and air and litter made of straw and hay only. The cattle must not be tied, they need freedom of movement. Synthetic food supplements, hormones, preservatives and antibiotics are prohibited.
In Europe and America enterprises producing “organic” products undergo special certification system of production and whole technological process.
In Russia naturalness of products lies on conscience of the manufacturer. Foreign foodstuff delivered to Russia with “eco” or “organic” marking is just expensive products with bright add labels, since Russian certification system does not check their conformity with the declared criteria.
How to make sure that this or that product is “clean”?
Attentively read packing information. We usually buy foodstuff of the same trade marks with rare exceptions. Some manufacturers undergo voluntary clinical trials.
You have decided to diet? Perfect! Before taking a slice of unfading apple or a tasteless strawberry, think where you bought it. Before making yourself slimmer review your system of nutrition and product choice. Include in your ration unrefined products rich in natural cellulose, for instance cereals, coarse grinded bread, more vegetables and fruit. Recall your forgotten garden or garden-plot. Now it is not just simple seedbeds but ground for cultivation of healthy organic products.
